Like my Daddy said, “When all else fails, read the %*(#@) directions” …

Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2017 — I had a post about 2 hours ago asking for help from other owners of Yaesu FT-DX3000 rigs to help me figure out what was wrong with my new transceiver. I had everything set correctly, but the damn keyer wasn’t working. I bet I scrolled through the menu four dozen times and reset the rig twice while chasing my tail in hopes of figuring out what I was overlooking. After two hours, I decided to call it a night (er, morning!) and post a cry for help.

About 20 minutes ago I was eating some Velveeta and crackers (I would say “cheese and crackers” but my son would object to the use of the world “cheese” in that reference, given Velveeta’s history as a cheese-like substance) when it hit me — the reason the keyer wasn’t working was because it wasn’t turned on from the front panel control!

The reason I didn’t see the control was the fact I had the bandscope displayed, which hides eight important indicators for status of VOX, keyer, Mic EQ, etc. As soon as I switched off the bandscope I immediately had my “duh!” moment. The keyer works great!

I’ll have more to write about this rig in the days to come. It has some of the best receive audio of any rig I’ve ever owned. I need to put it thru its paces on CW and phone, and plan to do so soon.
