New Wolf SDR rig is quite a full-featured package

Today my new Wolf SDR RS-998 Chinese 160-6M 100 watt HF transceiver arrrived late today by DHL.

I was surprised at how fast the rig arrived — I ordered it on Jan. 11th and it was hear six days later. Not bad delivery time from China.

If you’re curious about the rig, I suggest you check out the videos on YouTube — its quite a piece of machinery!

I paid about $1,000 for the radio, which — given its 7 inch touch screen display and 100 watts output, was not a bad deal.

What sold me on the rig is the 100 watts output. I wanted to use it to check in on the Georgia CW net, but the 3.5 mm connector is recessed, and the 1/4 inch to 3.5 mm adapter was too large for the 3.5 mm plug to full seat in the socket. Grrr!

The receiver is superb, the display is amazing. You can actually zoom in and zoom out with the touch of your fingers on the screen. I only had a chance to spend a couple of hours with the radio so far, but I’m very impressed with its capabilities.

The radio did NOT come with a manual, however, so I’m going to have to figure out some of these settings on my own. Many of them are simple to figure out, but others not as much.

I’m looking forward to using the rig more! Its really nice, and it feeds that hunger I had for a new rig.
